So yes, Dan and I have moved. We are at the same university, and I am in the same job. I am now working in a different residential unit. As my job is a ‘live-in’ position, working in a different unit requires moving as well. We are just under two weeks of living in our new place and it’s going….better than ok. We are no longer living out of boxes although there are definitely still boxes around because we haven’t quite figured out how to live – and work, in Dan’s case – in this apartment yet. We’re trying not to stress ourselves out and unpack everything all at once, just unpacking as we need to. For example, this weekend I decided nothing in our kitchen could be in boxes any longer, so we figured out a ‘pantry’ situation. I’m excited about the next phase, which in my mind is decorating, putting things on the walls and such, because the tetris-style all-boxes aesthetic is getting a little old for me.
Also, the cats are doing really well. James didn’t even need a full day before he started exploring the whole place and while he’s adjusting to the new sounds that come along with a new environment, he’s doing impressively fine. Lily, of course, has jumped into every box in the apartment and has taken to sleeping on top of the kitchen cabinets.
I’m sure sometime soon we will post photos of the new place, which is really growing on us. The space is just different from our old apartment – bigger living space, but smaller bedrooms. No exterior entrance but a glorious glorious kitchen with new appliances and…a BATHTUB (in the bathroom, not the kitchen). I have taken several baths already – the best part of which has been the cat’s confusion with the situation, as they had never seen a bathtub before. I took a bubble bath one day, which blew their minds.
Anyway, along with the move, I’d like to get back to writing here more. I think we’ve had a relatively crazy last semester full of relatively large life decisions that we’ve been pretty quiet about (not planning a wedding, for one) and job changes and travel (Jazzfest…twas awesome) and…stuff.
In the meantime, I wanted you to know that you should make this strawberry pudding. I have made it twice in the past two days. It is easy and it is delicious. I personally had never even considered the idea that you could make pudding out of fruit before (isn’t pudding only chocolate and sometimes butterscotch?) but…things change, Mox.
Ah! Thank you for the additional information.
And I hear you on the bath. Though my place in OH had a tub, no amount of cleaning made me comfortable enough to lay down in that thing. But when I moved to ME… baths every day! Well, not really. But it was nice to have the option.
Looking forward to pictures.
Hello luvvy…
I’m relieved to hear that your move has been less stressful than you thought it would be (never a bad thing) and I’m really happy to hear that my “furry grandkats” are adjusting well to their new environment. Since I had the opportunity to place eyes on your new home, I would like to share with your readers that the area is beautiful — the architecture of the buildings, landscaping of the grounds, fountains and view of the campus and parts of SFO are breathtaking — it seemed much more serene– so different from your first place. I’m sure you and Dan will make this place your “own” soon.
Looking forward to a return visit. Be well, be safe.
I love you more than you know.
Mom
Glad to hear you are settling in to your new place. Miss you both.
